June F%$#@n Gloom!

Okay...Its mid June and the weather is rainy, gray and undesirable. It's JUNE!! Slugs took over the farm for awhile, but I recently won the ongoing battle. On the other hand the tomatoes, eggplant and basil in the hoop house look absolutely gorgeous and the chickens are happy! There is some sad news at The Side Yard, Meredith, my right hand lady just finished up her last day at the farm. She is on her way to Sri Lanka for a few months and we wish her the best of luck ! Taking her place is my friend Lindsey, we might not get too much work done though because she is the funniest person i know ( next to Brook of course). In other news, last week at inFARMation, I spoke on a panel held by the amazing Naomi of Naomi's Farm Supply, with other local urban farmers. We addressed issues on how to start an urban farm and how to overcome obstacles in doing so. It was so inspiring to meet other urban farmers and hear their story. There is so much cool shit going on all over Portland!! Happy farming and lets hope summer will arrive soon....
